Where I Would Go

I’ve been tagged by LVNSM27 to answer this question:

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be?

My Answer: Home!

They say Home is where the heart is.

“I long, as does every human being, to be at home wherever I find myself.”

The way I would draw a house when I was younger:

drawn house

For some reason that is the way I picture a house looking. Every time I draw a house for a kid, I draw it that way. I wonder if someone taught me to draw it like that, or I started it on my own. Anybody else draw a house like that?

House I drew in High School:

House drawn in HS

Used Birchas Habayis words as lines and pastels to color it in. The colors are a bit faded as it’s old, but if you look closely you’ll notice the bricks are different colors. Also if you notice the windows are halfway done, so that they look open. Since our art teacher told us we shouldn’t make a whole window because it looks like a cross.

Now this House I painted on Monday at a ceramics place:

Jewish Side's painted house

I painted red steps since my house has always had red steps. This took a really long time to paint, I wanted all the details to be done correctly. It was a funny thing that I chose to paint a house. As my brother was in the car driving us to the ceramics place I was thinking to myself about houses. Then when we got there and I was looking for something to paint, I spotted the house and it felt like a sign.

Speaking of houses, there’s a Halacha that you can’t cut down a fruit tree. There are these fruit trees with orange colored fruits that fall down in the fall. When they fall they land on the floor and stink up the whole place. So if anyone’s looking to buy a house, be on the look out for these trees.

To end on a positive note The Dugger House looks great!

I really like the Birkat HaBayit one. So clever. I even like your teacher saying not to make the windows into a cross - it gives it all the more character. I love that artform where one takes pieces of Torah and makes it into art. I believe there's one artist in particular who is a master at this, but I can't recall his name.

Maybe you should submit this post to JPIX?

I remember I used to draw a house similar to the first one. The second and third one are very well done.

If I were to go anywhere in the world it would be a place where my ideas are respected and argued. Respected because who doesn't want what they to be respected, and argued because 1) arguing is fun 2) because I can be wrong.

Nice job painting the third house, but the second one is amazing!
When I drew a house, I think it was one story, but with the same roof and chimney.

i love your answer. home. so simple, but so meaningful.

the second one is fabulous.

"Used . . . words as lines"

this is actually a uniquely jewish art form called micrography that dates back well into the middle ages. did you know this or did you come up with the idea to do this independently?

Thank You! When you put it that way, yea, it does give it character. My cousin is actually an artist and I've seen a few of her drawings like this in her house, she might of once mentioned the name of a famous artist that does it, but I forgot.

Thanks, I will.

Thanks, I'm surprised at how much attention the second one is getting.

o, cool, I knew it had a name to it. I did it in 9th grade, in art class. I actually have a bunch more stuff I made, maybe I'll do another post featuring them.

But in college, in core art, where we had to fill up a sketch book, I decided to do a similar idea. So I made a flag since it's simple to draw and then used words to fill it up with red and blue, and the words were "o, say can you see...". I worked really hard on it, it was a big page, I didn't think of scanning it in before I handed my sketch book in. But when my professor returned the sketchbook, I saw that one was missing. Attached was a note saying that he liked it and wanted to display it, so he removed it from my sketchbook. So now I don't have it :-( (although of course I am honored that he liked it)

as flattering as it might have been, it was wrong of him to remove it (and certainly to display it) without first asking you

yea, I think so too. Which actually reminds me, that I met my Kindergarden teacher recently, and when she saw me she told me that she still had a sheet of mine, and wanted to know if she can use it for her class. It must of been the only copy she had, from so long ago, I had no clue that she had a sheet of mine, of course I let her use it.

Thanx, I actually have one more micrography type, which is men dancing with a Torah. Maybe I'll save that for Simchas Torah. But then I have others that are just drawings and other Jewish related art stuff. I have a great man at the Kosel - my favorite. I'll find away to post about it sometime.
